Dan Puccio, Penn State York’s new associate director of student affairs, has had a busy summer getting acclimated to the campus and preparing for the upcoming fall semester. Puccio, who came to the campus from the University of New Orleans in Louisiana, began his position on June 11.

Puccio, 27, is the go to person when it comes to developing, implementing, planning, and evaluating student-focused programs and services including leadership training, orientation, student activities, and working with student clubs and organizations.  He works as part of a student affairs team to help make the student experience at Penn State York a positive one.

“Dan Puccio is a tremendous addition to the campus! Not only does he have great experience and ideas from his previous positions, he will bring much excitement and new leadership for our students,” said Patrick Tanner, director of student and enrollment services at Penn State York.

In his role, Puccio works with the Student Government Association (SGA) and every student club and organization on the campus.  On the lighter side of things, he books entertainment acts and activities for students to attend but his job isn’t just the fun side of things; he is also responsible for student conduct and disciplinary issues.

Prior to taking the position at York, Puccio worked as the coordinator for campus programs at the University of New Orleans in New Orleans, La., which has a student body of 11,000.  His experience over the years has included positions at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas City, Mo., and Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.

A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Puccio decided to head north for a new job to be a bit closer to home and take the next step up in his career.  The position at Penn State York offered that opportunity.

“I see a lot of room for growth in many areas at Penn State York,” said Puccio.  “I plan to develop new leadership initiatives for students and build on programs that are already inexistence.   I also hope to guide the SGA so it is an organization that it is representative of the students.  Student Affairs has a special place in my heart and I want every student to have the time of their life while on campus.  I am very excited about my new position and being a part of the Penn State family.”

Puccio holds a masters of arts in education administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Kansas, Mo; and a bachelors of arts in adolescence education from Canisius College, Buffalo, N.Y.

He resides in York, Pa.
