Directly below you will find the student and family agendas for New Student Orientation – Advising Component 2013.
If there are questions which cannot be answered adequately in this period of time, a family conference is available at the end of the day’s program to provide more time for discussion.
New Student Orientation (NSO)- Advising Component 2013 Student Agenda

| 9:00 a.m. | Welcome – The NSO - Advising component objectives and activities will be discussed. |

Educational Planning Interview and Academic Information Sessions – Advising and Career Development/Main Classroom Building Educational Planning Interview – Students will meet individually with an academic adviser to discuss the student’s placement test results and help the student evaluate his/her educational plans, interests, curricular goals, and other issues related to the academic experience at Penn State. Academic Information Session – During this small group meeting, students will discuss the nature of the transition from high school to college, learn to use academic resources in order to develop a schedule of classes, learn to use eLion (the University’s electronic advising system), review general education requirements, and discuss the opportunities available in a diverse academic community. |
| 11:30 a.m. | Academic Advising/Course Scheduling – Rooms 103 and 104 - M.S. Grumbacher Information Sciences and Technology Center (Grumbacher)
Students will meet with advisers to discuss academic plans and the requirements for their intended majors. Students will select and schedule their classes for fall 2013 semester and compose/send emails to their advisers. |
| 12:15/12:30 p.m. | Financial Aid and Billing – Students and families will meet in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. Information from the Bursar and Financial Aid offices will be presented, along with time for questions and answers. |

| 9:50 a.m. | Family Sessions– Interactive workshops focusing on academic success and transition to college. |
| 11:30 a.m. | Campus Panel - A panel of Penn State York staff, faculty, and students will offer information about campus resources and answer questions. |
| 12:30 p.m. | Next Steps– Students and families will meet in the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center. Information from the Bursar and Financial Aid offices will be presented, along with time for questions and answers. |
