    1. Chancellor, Joel Rodney
      1. Penn State is making changes to its retirement benefits. Such changes only affect those individuals who are hired after January 1, 2010.
      2. The reauthorization of the Higher Education Act (HEA) requires that instructors’ syllabi list the textbooks that will be used in instructors’ courses. The textbook information needs to be available to students by the time they register for the course. Discussion ensued. More details from the Director of Academic Affairs (DAA) office will follow.
      3. On April 13, 2010, the Penn State community will meet in Harrisburg with state officials. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend. This is a university-sanctioned event.
      4. Any inquiries from the press about the Penn State Biology Department issue should be directed to Barb Dennis directly.
      5. Dr. Romano’s decision about housing will likely come by mid-March, 2010.
    2. Director of Academic Affairs, Joe McCormick
      1. The campus needs to review its faculty search procedures in at least two areas: (1) possible use of videoconferencing technology for initial [screening] interviews; and (2) how to pay for a candidate’s plane ticket (e.g., some candidates fail to visit the campus, even after Penn State York has paid for their plane ticket).
      2. Business faculty search: completed. Joe M. is negotiating with candidate(s).
      3. Biology and chemistry faculty searches: ongoing.
      4. English faculty search: committee charged.
      5. J. Nesbitt has been funded by Penn State’s Institute for Arts and Humanities to complete her next book.
      6. Penn State’s “deferred grade policy.” The student must complete the class six weeks into the next semester. While it is the individual faculty member’s call, the policy was not designed for faculty to defer a student’s grade because that student failed to complete regular course assignments, did not attend class, or is otherwise failing the class.
    3. University Senators
      1. L. Berkowitz and M. Casteel are at a University Senate meeting.
    4. Faculty Council Representative, Emily Wenk
      1. This committee is addressing the following issues: faculty salary inequities; reliability and validity of SRTE scores; and online SRTE administration (e.g., at Penn State Berks, the online SRTE scores appear to be lower than SRTE scores administered previously [using the paper-and-pencil version.])
    5. Faculty
      1. To advise letters, arts, and sciences (LAS)students, F. Haag needs each discipline’s longterm course offerings (for 400-level courses). F. Haag asked that it be put in the senate record that he has asked for this information from the DAA’s office several times.
    6. Staff
      1. H. Gumke updated the campus about the asbestos removal project.
    7. Student Government Representative
      1. K. Kman is now the Student Government Association (SGA) president.
