Penn State York will host an Earth Day celebration on Tuesday, April 22 from 12–1:30 p.m., featuring Peter Siwik, a Penn State graduate and owner of Siwik Produce Farm, an organic farm in Felton, Pa. The event, in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center, sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Agricultural Science Club on campus, is free and open to the public.

A 2005 graduate of Penn State York with a degree in life sciences, Siwik operates a family-run farm committed to organic practices and good land use. Prior to owning the farm, he worked for EA Engineering Science and Technology, in their Eco Toxicology Lab. He changed his career to become a full-time organic farmer because of his commitment to growing and eating organic food. Siwik also holds a master’s degree in biotechnology from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.

In addition to Siwik’s presentation, there will be other displays at the Earth Day celebration, and those who attend will receive a free “Go Green” T-shirt and a reusable water bottle. Penn State York is committed to sustainability, and encourages students, faculty, staff, and members of the York community to gain practical knowledge about how to make the world a better place.
