Penn State York Students Win Nationals in Powerlifting
Eight Penn State York students won the national powerlifting competition held on March 29 in Philadelphia. Under the direction of their coach, Peter Catina, Ph.D., assistant professor of kinesiology and a powerlifter himself, the following students participated and won at nationals: Matt Haldeman, York; Tommy Leana, Glen Rock; Joel Yambo, Lancaster; Sai Parra, Lancaster; Dean Femera, Clifton, New Jersey; Erik Juergensen, Bel Air, Maryland; Brandon Yeager, Holtwood; and Chris Zerphey, Marietta.
In addition, the group qualified for Worlds and will be competing Oct. 18-21, 2009, in Bordentown, New Jersey. This is the first time the powerlifters from Penn State York will be competing on an international platform.
