VLN classes offered at Penn State, The Lancaster Center
Adult learners interested in enrolling in a credit program still have time to take a course this fall at Penn State, The Lancaster Center through the Video Learning Network (VLN). Most courses are offered in an accelerated seven-week format and are taught using a combination of face-to-face sessions with video conferences and online instruction by Penn State instructors.
The VLN was created by the Penn State World Campus as a way to give adult learners easy access to a Penn State degree. Offering courses in this format also helps ensure that courses remain open by including learners at multiple sites. Courses meet once a week.
The VLN technology provides the ability to network learners in geographically separated locations, and connects the students in a rich learning experience through natural real-time interaction. VLN classrooms are equipped with high-definition viewing screens, document cameras and other technologies for live interaction among faculty and students at the course origination site and up to three other sites.
Courses through the VLN in October at Penn State, The Lancaster Center are as follows: Effective Speech, Monday, Oct. 21, 5-7:30 p.m., through Dec. 16; Employment Relationship: Law and Policy, Thursday, Oct. 24, 5-7:30 p.m., through Dec. 19; and Labor Relations in the Public Sector, Thursday, Oct. 13, 7:45-10:15 p.m., through Dec. 19. Courses can be applied toward credit certificate programs as well as associate and baccalaureate degrees.
There are 28 VLN classrooms at Penn State campuses statewide. The VLN recently won the Association for Continuing Higher Education’s (ACHE) Northeast Metropolitan 2013 Exceptional Program Award for excellence in credit programming. ACHE is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning and excellence in continuing higher education. Penn State’s award was presented on June 14 at ACHE’s Northeast Metropolitan Region spring conference in New York City.
Courses are also offered through the VLN at Penn State York. To learn more about courses beginning in October, visit http://www.yk.psu.edu/CE/vln-schedule.htm, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or call (717) 771-4067.
