Vision Statement

At Penn State York, we view ourselves as partners with our community in fostering the intellectual growth of our students, in creating new knowledge, and in contributing to the cultural and economic health of our region.

We build on a core of excellence in undergraduate education, research, and service to provide educational programs and activities to serve the changing needs of our community. We collaborate with partners inside and outside of the University to maintain the quality of our offerings, the scope of our activities, and our reputation, to better serve the goals of engaging minds and of serving our community and the University.

Mission Statement

Penn State York provides high quality education, research, and service for the residents of south central Pennsylvania. The campus is the local presence of the University and is also a cooperating partner with the communities it serves.

Penn State York offers traditional undergraduate, graduate, and noncredit education. In addition, the campus is a focus for career-related education, technology transfer, and economic development initiatives. It extends its offerings throughout the service region through its Lancaster Center and many on-site locations. Through these outreach activities Penn State York serves students, business, industry, and government, by making education accessible and by helping area employers and residents to remain competitive in a rapidly changing economic environment.

In its campus atmosphere and in all its programs and actions, Penn State York maintains a strong commitment to gender and cultural diversity and respect for different viewpoints and life styles.

Penn State York cooperates with other campuses of the University including University Park, Penn State Harrisburg, Great Valley, and the Mont Alto campus to offer a variety of well enrolled programs and courses. The York campus continues to explore new degree offerings including all or portions of both baccalaureate and graduate degrees to respond to community needs.

As part of a major research institution, Penn State York conducts research and scholarly activity consistent with the expertise of its faculty. This research is valued in its own right as an important part of the task of the teacher/scholars on our faculty, and as a contribution to human understanding and creativity. Consistent with its limited resources, the campus also serves as a cultural resource for the communities within its service area.

The York campus demonstrates its commitment to the future of the region by reaching out to area youth with several significant programs. These include specialized summer activities for gifted children, enrichment programs for low income youth, and enrichment opportunities for African-American and Latino middle and high school students.

Diversity Statement

Penn State York values diversity and strives to appreciate the differences among us. We believe that creating a climate that promotes intergroup understanding within our diverse population is beneficial not only to the individual but also to the campus community.
